They began collecting donations today (Palm Sunday) and will end the canvassing on Easter Sunday, at which point they’ll make a donation to the earthquake relief efforts underway in Japan. The Christ Church Cathedral Summer Music Festival is a month long event which happens in July. Each Sunday of the month sees the Cathedral Choir singing larger works such as full masses or cantatas in a liturgical setting for the 10:30 a.m. Eucharist. Where called for, these larger works are accompanied by an instrumental ensemble. Ko Masushita’s Hoc est praeceptum meum, a 3-choir score available to Sing for Japanparticipants, will be one of the works programmed for the festival, to be performed by the Christ Church Cathedral Choir, led by Organist and Music Director, Rupert Lang. The 2011 Festival also includes Choral Evensong on July 3, 10, 17, and 24 at 4:00pm, preceded by a recital featuring guest organists and pianists at 3:00pm.
